Concrete floor polishing takes an existing slab, whether that is a garage, warehouse, shed, retail space or the floor of a home under renovation, and refines it into a clean, sealed, hard-wearing surface. Most of the work happens before the polishing starts. Old glue, carpet tack, paint, epoxy, levelling compound and surface contamination all have to come off, and cracks, holes and joints need filling, before the floor can be taken through the polishing sequence.
The Polishing Process
The floor is first ground with coarse diamond tooling to remove coatings and level the surface, then repaired where cracks, pop-outs and joints need filling. From there it moves through successively finer grits, with a densifier applied part way through to harden the surface so it can take a higher polish.
Final passes refine the surface to the agreed gloss level, and a penetrating sealer is applied to improve resistance to oil, tyre marks and staining. All grinding is carried out with dust extraction so the work stays contained, which matters when the space is inside an occupied building.
